Projections of increased demand for travel between Baltimore,
Washington, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport
(BWI), with increasing highway congestion slowing auto travel
times, creates a market opportunity for Maglev to serve business
travelers, tourists, and some commuters.
The study found that of Maglev-competitive trips (greater
than seven miles in length, and within the corridor), Maglev
anticipates capturing:
- Sixteen percent of the business market (job-related trips,
such as going to the airport for a business trip)
- Eight percent of the commuter market (between work and
home)
- Four percent from other markets (such as leisure or tourist
trips to Baltimore and Washington)
