| Maglev fare levels are higher than for MARC service,
the same as for Amtrak Northeast Direct service, but less
than Amtrak Acela service, Maglev airport shuttle and cab
fares. Maglev fares were set in order to provide a financial
return for private investors.
Fares for the proposed Maglev service are:
Baltimore to BWI
|
$11.50 non-commuters / $5.75 commuters |
| Washington to BWI |
$23.00 non-commuters / $11.50 commuters |
| Baltimore to Washington |
$27.60 non-commuters / $13.80 commuters |
The study found that:
- Significant numbers of riders will be attracted to the
Maglev service, for its convenience to downtown locations
and the airport, as well as for its frequency, high speed
and reliability, especially as highway congestion increases
and highway travel times become harder to judge for travelers
with deadlines.
- Maglev will become an essential link in the transportation
network of the region, as it will increase housing, employment,
and entertainment opportunities, as well as travel choices.
- The forecast may be considered conservative, as it does
not include Maglev as an attraction in its own right, whereas
it is likely that people from around the country and the
world would consider Maglev a tourist attraction as well
as transportation.
