"Stand Alone" Executive Summary

The "Stand Alone" Executive Summary for the Baltimore-Washington Maglev Project generally repeats the content of the executive summary found in Volume I of the DEIS with the primary difference being the inclusion of larger scale mapping. It is designed for those interested in gaining a quick understanding of the entire project along with easy- to-read alternative mapping, without having to download Volumes I and II. It presents the following sections: Introduction, Purpose and Need Overview, Technology Overview, Alternatives Assessment Summary, Environmental Impacts and Mitigation Summary, Public Involvement Summary, and, Next Steps. Alternative C (Amtrak Parallel Alternative) was retained for detailed study as the Build Alternative because it is the most feasible and constructible and satisfies the project purpose and need. The No-Build Alternative was also retained for detailed study.
