What does the current study include?

The MTA is preparing a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). NEPA establishes a national policy of preserving and enhancing the human environment for future generations while meeting the needs, including the transportation needs, of the present generation. The first phase was the scoping process. Scoping meetings for this project were held to introduce potential alignments to the public and local communities. Comments were requested at these meetings and also taken through the Maglev web site. The second phase of the DEIS is to determine which alternatives should be selected for more detailed study. Several alternative routes were studied to link Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The alternatives studied are the "no-build" alternative, an alignment paralleling Interstate-95, an alignment paralleling the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and an alignment paralleling the Amtrak rail corridor.
