Industry Workshop

The Maryland Transit Administration conducted an Industry Workshop to encourage contractors, vendors, and other private companies to become involved in the design, construction, maintenance, operation, and financing of the Baltimore Washington Maglev Project. Finance Workshop

The MTA held a finance workshop for companies interested in participating in the financing and risk management of this project. Invitations were mailed to individuals representing bond and construction insurers, financial advisors, investment bankers, rating agencies, and surety companies. Presentations were made on a proposed management plan that described the methodology for procuring firms or teams of firms for designing, procuring, constructing, financing, and operating the system and a proposed finance plan that will lay out capital, operating and maintenance cost estimates, proposed sources of funding and funding schedules.

Issues discussed at the workshop included:

  • Regional and National Significance and Benefits
  • Refined Cost Estimates
  • Investment Grade Ridership and Revenue Analysis
  • Proposed Plan of Finance
  • Project Delivery and Program Schedule

This workshop was held at the JP Morgan Conference Center, One Chase Manhattan Plaza, New York, NY on November 12, 2002. The Honorable Martin O’Malley Mayor of Baltimore City, aided by a representative of the Maryland Department of Transportation, presided over the meeting and gave the welcoming remarks. Over 50 people attended and represented investment bankers, bond underwriters, rating bureaus and venture capitalists.
