Public Involvement Process

Since beginning a feasibility study of bringing Maglev to the Baltimore-Washington region, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has remained committed to reaching out to the public and encouraging residents to become involved. Since October of 1999, the MTA has hosted numerous public hearings and project representatives have briefed several community organizations about the project. As the MTA begins environmental studies required by the National Environmental Policy Act, it is now more important than ever that the MTA maintain a constant dialogue with the public.

Successful public involvement is a two-way, interactive process through which the MTA can educate the public while simultaneously addressing the community's concerns. Past public meetings held between Washington DC and Baltimore, Maryland have provided the MTA with valuable insight regarding questions and concerns of citizens.

As the project moves forward, the MTA will continue to identify stakeholders throughout the region. Stakeholders are:

  • Residents, specifically those living along possible alignments
  • Businesses
  • Government agencies and organizations
  • Elected officials

The MTA has several ways of communicating with the public on this project, including:

  • This website
  • Newsletters
  • Informational videos
  • Fact sheets and brochures
  • Public meetings and briefings
